My parents want to change out their car. Something bigger than their current Buick Enclave. Must have 7 seats or more. I keep recommending the new Mazda cx9, but they want something bigger.

I don’t really think there’s much bigger out there other than a Suburban or similar. The Lambda crossovers are about as big as you can get short an extended length SUV.

Ford Flex has the same footprint and basic exterior dimensions, but the interior is leagues bigger. Otherwise, look at a Tahoe/Yukon/Expedition/Armada. Maybe a GL Merc.

That would be awesome. What do buses go for these days?

I’d say new Armada or Suburban/GMC. I recently drove a new Armada and it’s quite nice inside, and so is the Suburban.

I get unbelievably carsick in those.

Not much bigger than an Enclave other than a Suburban. Even Tahoes are smaller in some respects. They going to be towing? Big family? Maybe a van instead?

The Durango is slightly bigger (I think)
![]() 01/18/2017 at 21:23 |

Toyota Sequoia would be my best bet. I love the 5.7 and they are huuuuge. They can also tow pretty well.

I don’t know how many seats they offer, but the first thing that same to mind was Tahoe/Yukon. Second thing that popped into my head was Ford Flex. Last was a used Pathfinder Armada, from before they turned them into mini crossovers

I think the QX80 looks better as an Armada.
![]() 01/18/2017 at 21:26 |
|
Outside of 2nd row leg room and about an inch of hip room in each row, the QX80 is actually a tad smaller inside. Cargo room with 2nd and third row seats folded would go down 20 cubic feet.

Dear God, how big are your parents?

it’s worth a look - my ex boss has one and I think it’s tighter in the back. I work with a lady who has a late 1st gen Enclave and it really is nice - but it is more car-ish than SUV-ish. I’ll bet the Durango does have better tow capacity if that’s what they are looking for. And it’s a good looking rig.

Either that or they can wait for the 2018 Traverse, which manages to be even bigger than the current models.

too small to them. I recommended it

Depends. If you want a slow one they retail around $200,000. If you want a fast one GOOD FUCKING LUCK.

Jesus, how do you need something bigger than an Enclave? I find myself riding in a Traverse often, and they’re massive.
This is all I’ve got, if they really want big.

Enclaves are huge inside. Really not much is bigger besides Suburbans and minivans. A lot of the truck-based vehicles being listed here (Tahoe, Armada, Expedition) are smaller in some aspects inside despite being bigger outside due to the BOF construction. You can I both know there really is only one answer that makes sense here:

If they want bigger than that, they either have to get an Escalade/Suburban/Yukon XL or a van. Or a school bus. I vote school bus.

If space and comfort is what they want, I highly recommend you talk them into this. I have one, and if they made these when I was in college, I wouldn’t have needed a dorm room.

I know, right? Some Notre Dame students built it and lived in it on a road trip. It’s the most Jalop thing I’ve ever heard of.

Definitely bigger and it comes with a bike rack!!!

That brings a tear to to my eye. Kudos to them for taking on such a project. I completely agree.

If they can wait a little while, there will be an all new Ford Expedition out by the end of the year.

Pacifica. Yup I said it, I recommended a minivan, but they are great people haulers. If they want awd, they could go for a sienna. The odysseys are okay too. We’ve had our Pacifica since June and love it. The hybrids are coming out now too and I heard the second row seats are much nicer than the other trim levels.
![]() 01/19/2017 at 00:08 |
|
Why do they want to go even larger if you don’t mind me asking? I’d recommend the XC90 as well, or the Mazda CX-9 in a higher trim.
![]() 01/19/2017 at 01:19 |
|
You know, I spent 3 weeks and 3200mi in a Nissan Armada this summer. There’s a new generation out that is waaaaay nicer. I had literally no complaints about how great of a hauler the previous generation was. It checks the box on bigger, I think.
![]() 01/19/2017 at 01:21 |

The Enclave is pretty much as big as it gets for 3-row crossovers. If they want more room they’ll need a minivan or full-size SUV.

What about the Sedona in sxl trim?
![]() 01/19/2017 at 09:30 |
|
Not sure, but we had a base model Sedona a few vacations ago, and it was very nice too. If you get leather interior with that trim package, it would be a nice ride. I’m still partial to the Pacifica, they did a nice job on this one, not perfect, but it’s a nice place to cover miles and haul family around. We’ve had ours full with 8 passengers, including 3 child seats, many times now, and it’s been great. I’m a fan of the vans. Best part is no more door ding risk in the garage if the kids go and open a door, sliders yo.
